The Halloween Tarot

by

It’s quirky! That’s what I like about the Halloween Tarot deck. The title of each card and the accompanying imagery is familiar to those who know the standard format of Tarot, but it’s so very different at the same time. You’ll smile as you flip through each card, discovering the blend of traditional designs and the bohemian, bizarre world of Halloween myth and magic.

Most of the images are based upon the Rider Waite system, but as the author states they’ve been “twisted, turned, and tweaked to create a festive, if slightly freakish, old-time Halloween world.”

The Major Arcana incorporates themes from the circus and from horror movies, whereas the Minor Arcana has the suits of Bats, Ghosts, Imps, and Pumpkins. A cute cat (black of course) roams through the scenery on each card. The creator says that this feline is “your touchstone, and he travels through the deck with you as your companion.”

Some of the weird and wonderful interpretations include: The Fool has become a circus clown, whereas The Magician is an illusionist who pulls a rabbit from a hat. The High Priestess is a Vampiress, but my favourite of all is The Chariot, which is a purple hearse. The deck is also filled with pictures of the creator’s friends, weird stuff from her house, and even an ex boyfriend or two!

This deck isn’t just for Halloween. Use it whenever you want to add a bit of freaky fun to your Tarot readings.
